Labor Day or Vappu is always celebrated in Финляндии on May 1 and it is a holiday.
Vappu is a main holiday of finnish students. During its celebrations many
freshmen are participating in the initiation ceremony and are considered as
a «true» students afterwards.
For example in Tampere studets
are put to the Tammerkoski channel by crane. Other cities have their
own unique traditions of celebrating Vappu. Common among all finns are
special hats that they wear during May 1.
You can always say to which faculty finnish students belong by the colour of
their pants so do not be surprised by crowds of people in the same outfits.
